The Best Of Wedding Photography : Wedding Highlights

It’s time to take a stroll through some of my personal favourites, the shots I feel really show off the best of wedding photography from Belinda McCarthy Photography. Here, on this section you’ll find each post features a single image, giving a particular insight into what I find so special about the photograph, and why it really captures my aims and ambitions when I photograph weddings.

This section will be updated on a regular basis, showing off images from not only the documentary wedding photography work I undertake, but from all parts of the wedding day – from bridal prep, to guests, wedding decor details, flowers – anything, in fact, which I feel stands out as a lovely image with a particular story to tell. After all, weddings are stories, and our job as wedding photographers is to accurately capture and tell that story.

Don’t forget, the main wedding blog on the website is where to go for in-depth images of latest weddings, so make sure you head over there too!

The Best Of: Church Light

As a photographer, light is everything. And, as a documentary wedding photographer, you constantly come up against the challenges that ambient light throws at you. Too harsh, too dark, colour casted from a strong colour on the walls.... and yet, in order to work...

The Best Of: The First Dance

For the 'best of' series of blog posts, it's time to come back to one of the most photographed moments of a wedding day - the first dance. I've photographed many in my time as a wedding photographer in Dorset & Somerset, and at many different wedding venues. I...

The Best Of: Photo Booths

You might be surprised to know that I, as a documentary wedding photographer, love photo booths. It might sound incongruous to what I do, but when a wedding has a photo booth, it actually works hugely in my favour for two reasons. Firstly, it means that it fulfils the...

The Best Of: The Look

Documentary wedding photography is all about tiny, individual moments of magic, woven together to create a stunning story landscape of an unforgettable day. Moments which come and go in a fraction of a second, yet when brought back into the memories of those who were...

The Best Of Special: Wedisson Award Winning Wedding Photography

I'm really thrilled to bring you a special 'best of' blog today, for one of my favourite wedding images has been honoured in the 17th Collection Wedisson awards with a 'best wedding photography' award! The Wedisson Award is an international wedding photography...

The Best Of: The First Dance

The first dance of the bride and groom - time to kick off the evening wedding celebrations! However, it's often the case that the wedding couple don't look forward to their first dance as much as they should, as the idea of being watched on the dancefloor can be...

The Best Of: Arrivals

The bride's arrival is one of those epic moments in any wedding day - and one which, as a wedding photographer, is often an event which is hard to photograph. The truth is that it's very often the case that the bride's wedding car is absolutely surrounded by...

The Best Of: Pageboys

I have SO MUCH LOVE for this image, photographed at Orchardleigh House last year. I mean, a ridiculous amount of love. My favourite wedding photographs are always those which freeze a specific moment in time in a true documentary way, a moment so fleeting that there...

The Best Of: Greetings

I fell in love with this image as soon as I edited it. Photographed at a marquee wedding reception in West Somerset, it was a sunny day, with difficult light. The bride and groom portrait photography had just been completed after returning from the wedding ceremony at...

The Best Of : Cake Eating Dinosaurs

Well, the title says it all, doesn't it?! I think there should be more dinosaurs at weddings... and of course, they should get some wedding cake, too. If you look a little more closely, you'll perhaps see that this isn't ACTUALLY a real dinosaur, although the disguise...

The Best Of: Confetti Shots

The 'confetti shot' is one that's asked for at nearly all weddings, and normally involves some element of management and setup by the photographer and the wedding party. For example, the bride and groom may exit the church yard to the car though a 'confetti corridor'...

The Best Of : Wedding Games

If you're having a marquee or outdoor wedding, there's nothing more fun than a few garden games. Sometimes, though, you need a bit more room... as was the case with this fabulous marquee wedding in Somerset, where their games required the use of a particularly large...
